I created this unique circular wall piece using pâte de verre and fused glass elements. The work is inspired by the colours of spring—blossom pinks and verdant greens, the patterns and textures of new growth, and the way new spring light makes colours glow. It celebrates new life emerging, the return of sunlight after winter, and the sense of hope and renewal that comes with nature blooming once again.
I am drawn to the way light transforms glass and to the quiet wonder of observing and cataloguing the natural world. I explore ideas of magical realism, creating hybrid forms that blend plant, sea, and microscopic life.
The whole piece is composed of many smaller collections, reflecting the way nature is made up of layers upon layers of life and interconnected ecosystems. These elements include fragments of shells and jewel-like pieces of painted and fused glass, which contrast with and complement the pâte de verre forms.
The piece measures 57 cm in diameter and is hung using French cleats on the reverse. It hangs securely with a small gap from the wall, creating the impression that it is floating. The elements are mounted on matt white glass. Both the backing piece and individual elements are sealed to maintain their clean appearance and can be easily cleaned using a can of compressed air.
