Glan Clwyd Hospital

In 2019, I made a series of artworks for the NHS Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in North Wales. The artworks were created for several departments across Glan Clwyd Hospital, including Radiology and Maternity.

As part of this project, I collaborated with the radiology staff, and together we X-rayed plants that I had collected. They played an active role in the creative process. The images were printed on a large scale and installed in several locations across the department.

I also made kiln-carved glass panels with metal oxides that responded to the colours of the X-ray images, again using plant imagery.

I worked with Year 6 pupils from Bryn Tabor Junior School to produce glass panels using powder printing to transfer their drawings of plants found within the school grounds onto glass. The artwork is displayed in the Radiography waiting room.

The project included artwork for the Maternity Department's bereavement facilities, spaces designed to support families experiencing pregnancy or baby loss. Here, I designed and made glass panels for the walls of the newly refurbished rooms, using gentle and soothing imagery of nature.
